Pamporovo is one of the largest and best-developed winter resorts in Bulgaria. The resort is situated in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, about 220 Km from the capital Sofia and only 85 km from Plodiv. Pamporovo is the sunniest Bulgarian winter resort with a total of about 200 days, of which are in the winter months! In the winter, snow sports lovers can hit the slopes of Pamporovo and expect a lot of snow and lot of fun. The gentle profile of the mountains with its rounded slopes and summits makes this resort suitable for beginners. But there are also more demanding slopes such as “The Wall” for the advanced skiers. There are many ski rentals, ski schools and lift stations near the ski runs. The ski and snowboard schools are great reputations and Bulgaria is renowned for its excellent value – also the après ski is a lot cheaper than in other European resorts. There is a good range of skiing to keep even very good skiers entertained! There is excellent family fun in this vibrant ski resort. Pamporovo is an up-and-coming ski holiday destination, ideal for beginners and intermediates. Bulgaria is already well known for fantastic après-ski facilities and great value for money skiing.
A summer wonderland & mountain biking
The wonderful nature and the historical sites around Pamporovo create interest in the town during the summer as well. Bachkovo Monastery, the Smolyan Lakes, the Trigrad Gorge and the Marvelous Bridges are just some of the interesting places in the area attracting the interest of tourists.
At the beginning of July 2012 was the official opening of ‘Velo Park Pamporovo’. The park has a specialized downhill trail with a length of 1800 meters, designed by the team of Concept Creative.The trail is built according to all accepted international standards and is ready to host high class competitions, as it has already hosted the European Championship in 2013, as well as two other major UCI international events! Neeless to say, this velo park is ideal for visitors who want to mountain bike in the summer months. The trail is thousands of meters long and is suitable for all ages. It will take the riders to some of the most beautiul places in the area. There are tracks for beginners and some more specialized tracks in order to train and develop your skills so as to move on to a more complex route. More advanced bikers can ride on cross contry routes of medium difficulty and exercise before moving on to more difficult trails.
How to get there
Once you have landed in Sofia, you don’t need a long transfer into the mountains. Plodiv airport is only 90 minutes to Pamporovo.
